- Outside hot tubs/spas should be enclosed and in a secure locked
area to prevent unauthorized and unsupervised use.
- Children must be constantly supervised in the hot tub or spa
area.
- Never use a hot tub or spa alone.
- Limit time in the hot tub or spa to no more than 15 minutes.
- Do not use a hot tub or spa if the water temperature is more
than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The high water temperature in a hot tub or spa will accelerate
drowsiness if a person has consumed alcohol or is taking drugs,
increasing the risk of drowning.
- Proper use of chemicals, cleaning and/or changing of filters,
testing water and following preventative maintenance schedules
will ensure sanitary conditions.
- Pregnant women, persons with heart disease, diabetes or high
blood pressure problems and elderly people should not use a hot
tub or spa without a doctors permission.
- Keep electrical appliances away from a hot tub or spa.
- Have a phone, police and rescue squad phone numbers nearby
in case of an emergency.
- An emergency shut-off should be easily accessible.
- To avoid drowning or injury, people with long hair should wear
a cap. Do not wear loose or torn clothing in the hot tub or spa.
- Suction points and drains should be properly covered and grated.
